It’s June and that means summer is in full swing! If you’re like us, then you’ve probably got that summer itch and can’t wait to head outside for some fun in the sun. And with so much to do, we thought we’d look at a few popular summer activities that also serve as great opportunities to give back.

Remember, Techweek Gives will wind down in less than a month -- but the good news is that there’s still plenty of time to increase your standing and move up the leaderboard. So without further ado, here are five fundraising ideas to spice up your summer giving.

Host a field day

One way to boost employee giving is to encourage a bit of friendly competition. Consider hosting an outdoor field day when the weather permits and charge a minimum donation fee for participation. Events like sack races, bags, tug-of-war, or capture the flag are affordable, easy to organize, and can provide hours of fun for your entire office.

Get some exercise

Summer is the perfect time to get fit -- whether that’s yoga in the park or an outdoor boot camp. Find a public park near the workplace and schedule some outdoor fitness classes. You can request donation fees from attendees and, if you have a sporty office, you can ask for volunteers to lead classes in their favorite sport or workout.

Take a hike

A hiking trip is a quick and inexpensive way for your team to explore the great outdoors, learn about the environment, and give back to their community. Once you’ve set a donation fee for participants, just make sure that you’ve mapped out a trail and that you’ve got all of the necessary supplies (mostly just water and food) to sustain you and your team for a short, relaxing hike through nature.

Organize a fun run

There’s no better time of year to organize an office fun run. All you need to do is set a distance, map out a path, and ask for a few volunteers to hand out water and snacks. From there, just ask for a donation fee and you’re off to the races.

Get to the beach

Whether it’s frisbee or beach volleyball, there are plenty of activities that you can organize and host on the beach. Think about arranging an after-work beach party and charging a small donation fee for participation.

These are just a few fun ways to get outside this summer and help those in need. But whether you’re hosting a beach volleyball tournament or organizing an office 5K, make the most out of this summer by giving back to your community.
