How to Make Your Dance-a-thon Sponsors Happy

From the Twist to the Whip-Nae-Nae, a dance-a-thon is a great way to engage donors of all ages. No matter the theme or the decade, a dance-a-thon can be just the event to bring new supporters to your organization. As with any event, it’s important you are incorporating ways to drive visibility for your sponsors.

Signage, program logos, or shoutouts from the DJ are all good things to do. However, thinking beyond the basics can really make your event stand out in the eyes of the people who are helping to underwrite it. Integrating a free mobile app into your fundraising can help enhance sponsor visibility at your event, especially if it’s a dance-a-thon. Here are a few ideas.

  • Decade Drives

Promote one of your sponsors with a “decade of music.” Maybe you have a local boutique that’s sponsoring the event. With the recent return of 1970s styles, the boutique could sponsor an hour of 70s music. You can easily integrate the decade with donations. For example, saying everyone who donates $70 dollars during that hour will receive a 20% coupon from the boutique.

If it’s a bank, perhaps you honor the year that bank came to your town by having them sponsor an hour of that decade’s music. Promote a corporate match during that session through push notifications on your attendees’ mobile phones. A mobile app with no sign-up fees will help you raise more money simply because people can donate with just a couple taps of the screen. They don’t even have to stop dancing!

  • Song or Band Sponsors

Tie a sponsor to a popular song or performer. Every time that song plays or a song from that band plays, have a “fast money” session. Every dollar raised is matched by that corporate sponsor during that song. A fast money session provides a way for your sponsor to drive further engagement with their brand at the event. If the song is tied into the brand, it’s even better. If it’s a car dealership, for example, run the fast money session for every song that has “drive” in the title. Like the “Decade Drives,” a free mobile app can help you keep overhead costs low and donations high. The dancing continues when you can provide support with your phone.

  • Measurement and Impact

Make sure your sponsors understand the visibility and public relations opportunities they gain from sponsoring your event. By partnering with a mobile giving app, you can easily report solid metrics to show the sponsor’s return on investment.

  • If they’re sponsoring a decades hour, you can report how much money you raised during that hour. If you’re using push notifications, you’ll be able to easily measure how many people viewed the notification. A mobile app also allows you to use social networks to refer traffic to sponsors’ sites, as well as increase mentions and engagement with their brands.

These activities give you the ability to report some real numbers to show sponsors the visibility your event provides. Reporting metrics helps your organization develop repeat dance-a-thon sponsors and recruit new ones for future events.

A dance-a-thon can be a fun way to raise funds and awareness for your cause. If you can secure corporate sponsorships, there’s even more reason to celebrate. However, don’t just assume that businesses will jump to sponsor your event. There are many worthy causes and limited resources. Take the extra steps needed to provide measurable visibility, and you’ll have happy sponsors and stronger corporate relationships.
